My Insights about the Electoral Bills Amendment Signed by Mr President

By Hamisu Ibrahim Alkhamees

Hmm it is not yet over, but the beginning of political god-fatherism

I see nothing to celebrate or applaud in the electoral bill amendment signed by Mr. president.

The ministers, commissioners, SAs among other political office holders   are boys of some politicians. They were made ministers through their political godfathers and that's how they would become governors or senators through their political godfathers. Is there any political office holder that was chosen base on merits?  Remember you cannot win election without the support of your master or elite in Nigeria.

I think the best way to reform Nigeria democracy for good leadership is by:

1) Ensuring INEC to be an independent electoral body.

2) All elected persons should resign and vacate their seats five months before election.

3) INEC should be given power to assign an acting president, governors, senators, among other political positions.

4) INEC should be given power to introduce an independent body that will collect all the properties of any aspirants and return the property of those that lost the general election.

5) Why those that win the general election, their properties should remain with INEC till their tenures elapse and if they perform well their properties should be given back to them, but if they do not perform well, then INEC in collaboration with the independent body should sell those properties and remit the money into the federal government accounts.

6) Anybody contesting for a political position who owns properties abroad or shares should sell those properties and build a company in his state or local government before he or she should be allowed to buy a form.

7) Any aspirants whose sons or daughters studying abroad should return him/her back home to study in public university and if he wins the election his/her children must continue studying in the public university.

8) Any aspirant must signed an agreement that he will not use foreign hospital for his medicals even if he is at the verge of death.

If we can have people like Attahiru Jega I think we can achieve it.
