Dr. Yusuf Idris Maradun Two Years On The Saddle, a success story.






 The Administration of Dr. Yusuf Idris Maradun, Provost College of Health Sciences and Technology Tsafe, Zamfara State has been described so far as a success story.


 The college is a foremost College of Health Sciences and Technology, which has been at the forefront in the training of health Practitioners for this country and the West African sub region, established since 2001 that the college was established with just few hundreds of students, Opened with only six (6) departments.

The college offer various health related courses.

 The institution has now gone so far that as of today the yearly enrollment is over 3000 students, and the annual turnover of graduating students is over 1,200.
 This shows that the college has transformed tremendously. 

The present Administration under the able leadership of Dr. Yusuf Idris Maradun, the development so far had brought glory to the college making it to be rated amongst the leading colleges of health sciences and technology within the country.

The provost lauded the Founding fathers of the college, Government of Zamfara state under the able leadership of His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Bello Matawalle, Philanthropist among others for their financial support to the college.

On assuming duty, the provost Dr. Yusuf Idris,he began by appreciating the efforts and contributions of his predecessors who laid the foundation stone of the institution. 

This he did by thorough study of the available records at his disposal and physical inspection of existant policies, programs and structures in the college that gave him full insight and sense of direction of how to move the institution to another level of development. 

It was from there he identified the most important and urgent needs of the college of health sciences and technology Tsafe.

Our findings revealed that soon the college will attract international partners for exchange programmes, through which its staff and students will be exposed, to best practices as done in other parts of the world.

The institution has continued to thrive because of the impact that the institution has had on its immediate community, Zamfara State and the nation at large.

The visiting journalists has rated the institution as one of the best in the country and belonging to the highest echelons of health institutions in Nigeria, describing its existence so far as a success story.

The provost and his management team are focused and dedicated to achieving and establishing relationships of lasting consequence between students and their lecturers.

Also encourage personal and social responsibility by creating opportunities for students to share their learning with the community and to make meaningful contributions.  Decent hostel accommodation is available the students .


 The provost said that, "Our vision is to be one of the best, dynamic and leading Colleges of Health Sciences and Technology in Nigeria and at the global level as well.  To compare favourably in standard and academic training of middle level health professionals in Nigeria and beyond".

 "We  are determined to have set of students with ICT skills.  All our students are trained on computer application, Internet services and usage.  We believe this will enhance their core academic values. With a Computer Lab equipped with hundreds of Laptop computers, with our functional E-library and qualified tutors, our students’ ICT training is on the right track".

In his effort to apply the best of his ability to reposition and improve the performance of this institution, the Provost Dr. Idris was able to record numerous achievements:

NBTE accreditation of three (3) programs and presentation of the college to the TETFUND by NBTE for intervention.

Follow-up for TETFUND intervention is quite in progress.

Gaining approval for increasing the number of students enrollment in CHEW, JCHEW and establishment of National Diploma in community Health Technology with a leverage to run two streams (40×2 =80 students) in addition to the CHEW &JCHEW.

Actualizing the use of course registration forms for students, mandating proper carryover and spill over in the college for the first time.

Introduction of exam result scripts moderation and bating by both QAC and academic board Committee before finally adopting and approving the result.

Introduction of medical examination among fresh students for infectious diseases prior to confirmation of admission (HIV, Hepatitis etc).

Establishing alternative laboratory for the national diploma in nutrition & dietetics program, pending the construction of new laboratory by the state government.

Regulation of all students rented houses in the town under the school domain to avoid security challenges is on process.

Re-accreditation of the following programmes with their regulatory bodies, i.e
- Community health
- Dental surgery
-Medical laboratory technician almost concluded (awaiting for the accreditation team).
- Pharmacy technician almost concluded. (Awaiting for the accreditation team)
- Inclusion of the college in the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) brochure and henceforth any candidate seeking for admission into the college for National Diploma programme must present his/her result.
- Ladoke Akintola University of technology (LAUTECH), Kwara state university Malete (KWASU) and University of Ibadan (UI) have approved CHST Tsafe as study centre for health related programmes for degree Award.
- The college has signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) with university of Jos (UNIJOS), Plateau state to serve as a SIWES centre for CHST Tsafe students.
- Production and distribution of high contact surface and hand rub sanitizers to MDA's as Contribution to the state government in the contolof covid 19.
Renovation of all female hostels and procurement of mattresses, pillows & beds to each student.

-Completion and furnishing of PHC tutors office complex.

-Construction of phantom Head Laboratory for school of Dental Health Science.

-Establishment and furnishing of Audio-visual and Technical drawing rooms for effective training.

-On-going construction of Exams and record unit.

-Full accreditation of Environmental Health Technology by WAHEB for the first time ever in the college.

-Re-accreditation of School of Community Health by Community Health Registration Board of Nigeria.

-Re-accreditation of School of Dental Health Sciences for National Diploma and Higher National Diploma on Dental Health Therapy.

-Full payment of accreditation fees to pharmacist council of Nigeria and Medical Laboratory Councils of Nigeria, and attaining 90% preparation for the up-coming reaccraditation of the programs.

-The College has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Zaria to serve a SIWES centre for students of ND Biomedical engineering.

-Renovation of water tanks and as well as reticulation to various points in the college.

-Upgrading of College Admission/ Registration portal.

-Upgrading and Rehabilitation of two(2) Laboratories up to standard and procurement of equipments for school of medical Laboratory in preparation to Reaccraditation of Medical Laboratory Technician.

-Facility visit by TET-Fund for intervention.

-Introduction of full Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) system of payments to avoid any leakages or financial/misappropriation.

-Provision of mobile police outpost attached to the College to checkmate any security challenges.

-Installation of Twenty Nine(29) Numbers of Solar powered Electrification poles.
