Legislation: Akpabio told to resign or impeach



 


The Nigeria Senates  were unhappy with Godswill Akpabio's leadership of the Red Chamber.

According to reports, the aggrieved lawmakers have allegedly plotted to remove Akpabio as the leader of the Senate.


Some aggrieved senators have started making moves to impeach the Senate president, Senator Godswill Akpabio. 

Investigations revealed to MOONLIHGTNEWS that some prominent senators across the national assembly are already meeting and mapping out plans to carry out the daring move.

The senators says the process that will ensure the country’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio is impeached has commenced.

 
According to the senates the number three citizen, Godswill Akpabio is not fit to occupy the position of the senate president for committing impeachable offences.

Meanwhile, the call for Akpabio's sack was further heightened in March 2024 following the suspension of the lawmaker representing Bauchi Central, Senator Abdul Ningi, over the 2024 budget padding allegation.



THE AKPABIO’S ‘TEN OFFENCES' (SINS)

  • Promoting the interest of the President at the expense of national interest. 
  • An intimate relationship with President Tinubu prevents him from paying attention to his colleagues.| 
  • No voting exercise by the Senators on the final clearance of the Minister-Nominees. 
  • Ethics and Privilege Committees/Ad-hoc Committees were not consulted in the final resolution on petitions filed against unconfirmed Ministerial Nominees. 
  • Refusal to deal with some interest groups over issues bordering on oil subsidy removal and electricity tariff. 
  • Controversial statement on token allowance to be sent to Senators’ account for a holiday. 
  • Senate President’s Camp given preferential treatment in Resources Allocation (Supplementary Budget). 
  • Akpabio’s loyalists handed leadership of “Category A”.Committees 
  • Position of Vice Chairmen for “Category A” Committees allotted to his loyalists. 
  • Some experienced Senators denied Committee Chairmanship.
