Corruption, Abuse of Office and Extortion Allegedly Bedevilling Transcorp Hilton Hotel

Transcorp Hilton Hotel, one of Nigeria’s leading five-star hotels, is facing allegations of corruption, abuse of office, and extortion by staff and management.

Information available to us indicates that both foreigners and Nigerians who book reservations in advance often face difficulties securing their allocated rooms.

A guest may book a suite but later be assigned a room of lesser value than what was reserved. In some cases, guests are allegedly asked to pay additional money as a bribe to receive the room they originally booked.

An insider, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that last week some expatriates arrived from Lagos to attend a conference in Abuja.

Their embassy had already booked different rooms at Transcorp Hilton Hotel. On arrival in Abuja, however, the rooms they reserved were not allocated to them. Instead, they were given rooms of lower standard than those initially booked.

Following this development, which is a serious embarrassment to the country, government and stakeholders in tourism and hotel management should urgently investigate these allegations.

The review should cover not only Transcorp Hilton but all five-star hotels in the country to prevent further embarrassment in the eyes of foreigners and Nigerians alike.

_Note: The claims in this report are based on allegations and an anonymous source. They remain unverified at press time. Efforts to reach Transcorp Hilton Hotel management for comment were unsuccessful._
