Nigeria: All Politicians Are Crooks, But Some Have a Little Conscience

By Comrade Musa Mohammed Moonlight

Politics, by its very nature, attracts deception, greed, and self-interest. Every politician, no matter how well-packaged, is in the game for power. But while some steal and still think about the people, others loot with no remorse—heartless, shameless, and destructive.

Most of our politicians are liars and thieves. Power corrupts. Look at our politicians (Nigeria), they make money by wrong means as if there is no tomorrow. We have a politician who once used to sell provisions by the road, today his net worth is over  N2 billion. There are many such examples across the country. Then they use their power for undue favors and use the public institutions as though they are the owners. Sad state of affairs.

In Nigeria, we’ve seen both kinds. There are those who, despite their flaws, have built roads, hospitals, and schools. They may have pocketed some money along the way, but at least they left something behind. And then there are the outright thieves—the ones who sell state properties to themselves, inflate contracts to drain the country dry, and collapse the economy while living in luxury.

Before, our (nigeria) economy had hope, when the NAIRA had value, and when development projects weren’t just for show. But then came the reckless ones—the arrogant looters who borrowed beyond control, taxed everything but the air we breathe, and still had the audacity to insult our intelligence with empty slogans.

Leadership is about service, but in Nigeria, it has become an opportunity for daylight robbery. The difference between the crooks with a conscience and the outright criminals is that one leaves something behind for the people, while the other leaves only debt, suffering, and propaganda.

At this point, Nigerian's are not asking for saints—we know those don’t exist in politics. We just want leaders who will steal but at least develop the country, not the ones who will rob us blind and still act like they are doing us a favor.
