NORTHERN SECURITY DIALOGUE: Arewa Media Practitioners Nominate NWDC Chairman Samaila Yakawada to Chair 8th Lecture on Insecurity in Northern Nigeria


The Arewa Media Practitioners have nominated Hon. Samaila Abdullahi Yakawada, Chairman of the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), as Chairman of the 8th Arewa Media Practitioners Lecture and Award for National Development.

The event, tagged _Northern Security Dialogue_, will focus on the theme: _Insecurity, Banditry, and Terrorism in Northern Nigeria: Causes, Genesis, and Solutions_.

According to the organizing committee, Yakawada’s leadership and insight are vital to the national conversation on peace and development in the region.

The lecture is scheduled for Saturday, 16th May, 2027, at the Murtala Mohammed Library in Kano.

The annual event brings together scholars, security experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to examine the root causes of insecurity in Northern Nigeria and propose actionable solutions. This year’s edition will also honour distinguished Nigerians who have contributed to national development.

Comrade Musa Mohammed, National President of Arewa Media Practitioners, said the committee settled for Hon. Yakawada because of his track record in regional development and his commitment to peacebuilding.

“As Chairman, he will deliver the opening remarks, moderate key sessions, and present awards to recipients,” Mohammed said.

Arewa Media Practitioners is an umbrella body representing Chief Executive Officers of over 100 media houses across Northern Nigeria.
