BREAKING: EFCC Petitioned Over Alleged Fraud in the Cooperative, Loans and thrift Society of National Ear Care Centre, Kaduna

Members of the Cooperative, Loans and Thrift Society of National Ear Care Centre, Kaduna, have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial misappropriation, diversion of funds, and lack of accountability by successive executives of the Cooperative Society

The cooperative society, according to its stated objectives, is meant to provide loans to members at reasonable interest rates, grant financial assistance to members, promote a savings culture, share profits and surplus, encourage investment, and supply food items and other products at affordable costs etc

However, some members alleged that these objectives “have not been realistic” under the last two administrations led by Hadiza Haruna and Ya’u Anthony Dogara, and the current president, Shuaibu Rani.

Members who spoke on condition of anonymity claimed that the society’s account, which reportedly received over N120 million monthly 10 years ago, now receives less than N10 million monthly. They attribute the decline to “financial misdemeanor” by executive committee members, which they say has caused “serious financial difficulties” for members and their families. Members cannot be granted a loan of five thousand naira(#5000) or withdraw same amount from their savings

The petitioners further alleged that some past and present executives enriched themselves by siphoning funds to acquire personal property and vehicles, granting loans to non-members( Mostly relatives) and ineligible persons, and using cooperative funds for personal businesses.

The matter has reportedly been reported to the EFCC for investigation. _Arewa Media Practitioners_ could not independently verify the figures or allegations as of press time.

A source also alleged that the Director of Administration of the Centre, Mal. Rani Aliyu, who is said to be a brother to the current president, was “cited engaging in personal businesses with cooperative funds through his brother.” These claims have not been independently verified.

Meanwhile, the management of the National Ear Care Centre, under Dr. Mustapha Abubakar Yaro, is said to be taking steps to resolve the matter, according to members.

Some executive members who spoke to our reporter claimed that “the successive administration of the cooperative is  being managed by the President and the Treasurer only.” Others expressed concern over the “expensive wedding” allegedly planned by the current president for June 27 2026, saying EFCC’s investigation would establish the facts.

Efforts to reach the current president, Shuaibu Rani, past presidents Hadiza Haruna and Ya’u Anthony Dogara, and Mal. Rani Aliyu for comment were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.

The EFCC spokesperson in Kaduna could not be reached for comment. The anti-graft agency is yet to issue an official statement on the petition. It assumes that the intelligence investigation is presently in effect .
